Diabetes Reversal Elective Training Module From The Nutrition Network

The Nutrition Network (NN) is gearing up to release the latest of their Elective Module offerings, Diabetes Reversal. The module will focus on how Type 1 & 2 Diabetes may be successfully managed and, in the case of Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM), reversed using a Low Carbohydrate High Fat (LCHF) or ketogenic diet.

This module forms part of the advanced training curriculum and is required for all practitioners wishing to certify as an NN Practitioner. It takes a deeper look into the disease which affects 463 million adults worldwide and cost 760 billion US dollars in health expenditure in 2019. T2DM is traditionally thought to be irreversible. However, increasing evidence indicates that it may be reversible after all, through the use of sustained therapeutic carbohydrate restriction. At the very least an LCHF diet is an effective means to improve blood glucose control and reduce medication use in people with diabetes. Yet medical practitioners receive no training on the evidence-base and practical application of this effective therapeutic intervention. As such, this Diabetes Reversal module should be essential for all doctors, dietitians and nurses treating diabetes.

Lecturers include NN Chief Medical Director Professor Tim Noakes, who famously reversed his T2DM through dietary carbohydrate restriction, NN Medical Directors Dr Neville Wellington, Dr Hassina Kajee, and Dr Mark Cucuzzella, a professor at West Virginia University School of Medicine.

The expert lecturers tackle topics including:
  • The history and epidemiology of nutrition and dietary guidelines
  • The biochemical and pathophysiological mechanisms behind the development of insulin resistance and T2DM
  • Type 1 Diabetes
  • Medication reduction on an LCHF diet
  • The pathophysiology of the complications of chronic hyperglycemia
  • And much more…
This module outlines the evidence-based-nutritional approaches that you can apply in your practice to reduce medication requirements and promote optimal health in individuals with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.

Dr Neville Wellington, who heads up a thirteen doctor medical practice, has been helping patients ‘reverse’ their diabetes through changing lifestyles and structured glucose monitoring. He states, “In all my years of practice the only lifestyle that I have seen that has truly helped reverse diabetes is a low carbohydrate lifestyle. What is great, is that now we have all these studies confirming what we are seeing in practice!”

The Diabetes Reversal module includes a ‘Patient Perspective’ segment where Dr Wellington interviews two of his patients who have successfully reversed their T2DM, providing a personal insight into the lives of patients adopting this diet.

Dr Hassina Kajee, an integrative specialist physician, believes that once the offending agent (carbohydrate) has been removed, the body has the innate power to heal itself. “Any doctor or healthcare provider who refutes the fact that diabetes can and is being put into remission through nutrition, without first becoming curious and studying the data, is in fact wrong. To stand in the way of patients gaining access to this knowledge that can save their lives, by openly opposing it without first having verified the facts, is in my opinion criminal and in direct opposition to the Hippocratic Oath”, she says.

We hope that through this module, practitioners will gain the expertise necessary to confidently promote and prescribe the LCHF diet to help their patients thrive in the face of an otherwise devastating disease.

The Diabetes Reversal module will be released in July 2020 – enrolment is open to medical and allied healthcare practitioners. Click here apply to enrol.
