Biographical Info I have run my own General Practice in a regional city in Australia (Townsville, Queensland) for over 30 years. My special interest areas include: Management of Chronic Disease, Skin cancer surgery, Preventative Medicine and Practice Management. I have seen the rise of chronic disease in our community over the long time I have been in practice and see it as a “tsunami” that is bearing down upon us. On reflection, having seen many (failed and expensive) public health programs come and go that focus on diet, lifestyle change and exercise, the problem continues to grow exponentially, I wondered is there a better way we have not recognized? The number of patients with co-morbidities and polypharmacy alarmed me. Fast food outlets open on every corner almost daily, like they are the new churches. We seem to be at a crisis point. Gastric surgery is touted as the only solution. A drastic approach to what should be a preventable problem. After reading around the scientific basis for the LCHF lifestyle, it seemed that this could be the new approach that may help stem the tide. Consequently, I have undertaken to educate myself further in the field and offer this to patients I think would benefit, and to help prevent the development of disease in the currently healthy.
