Biographical Info Dr. Jamila Benn graduated from the University of Oklahoma, College of Medicine in 2003. She went on to complete a Family Medicine Residency in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her career then took her to Oak Park, Illinois where she completed a fellowship in Women’s Health and Surgical Obstetrics. Having spent 7 years in the US Virgin Islands working at a community health center, she returned to the mainland of the United States and worked at various community health centers in a locums capacity. It was not until she reached Hawaii that she discovered her love for teaching new doctors. At that point she joined a residency program as a community preceptor and hopes to soon be added as faculty. During the course of her career, she became increasingly dissatisfied with disease management instead of health preservation. Her journey seeking non-pharmacologic methods to maintain health led her to additional board certification in Lifestyle Medicine in 2017. She considers LCHF another tool in her proverbial “black bag” to teach those who are committed to optimal healthy living.
