Nutrition Network Launches New Online Training: "Exercise for the Treatment and Prevention of Disease"

Nutrition Network has introduced a new online training program, “Exercise for the Treatment and Prevention of Disease.” This training is designed to provide healthcare providers, fitness trainers, and laypeople with the knowledge and tools necessary to incorporate exercise as a central component in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases.

A Transformative Approach

The training program begins with foundational concepts such as cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and movement competency, progressing to advanced topics including personalized exercise prescription, integration of exercise with medication management, and strategies for addressing diverse patient populations. Through evidence-based strategies, practical case studies, and interactive learning, participants will be equipped to apply these concepts in their clinical practice.

Expert Lecturers Share Insights

The training features contributions from leading experts in medicine, exercise science, and health coaching:

  • Peter Cummings, MHP, NNP, Metabolic Health Practitioner and Certified Nutrition Network Practitioner, emphasizes the importance of CRF and movement competency as vital signs in clinical practice. “We aim to revolutionize how healthcare providers view exercise, not just as a supplementary recommendation but as a cornerstone of patient care,” Cummings stated.
  • Dr. Laurie Rauch, Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Neurobiology of Exercise and Sports Medicine at the University of Cape Town, explores the science of cardiorespiratory fitness, providing a thorough understanding of how to assess and enhance CRF in patients. “Cardiorespiratory fitness is the best predictor of morbidity, quality of life, and mortality. There seems to be no upper limit to the benefits improved CRF provides,” said Dr. Rauch.
  • Dr. Mark Cucuzzella, MD, MHP, Professor at West Virginia University School of Medicine, discusses exercise as medicine, highlighting its practical applications in clinical settings. “Exercise is a powerful therapeutic tool that, when properly prescribed, can lead to significant improvements in patients’ health outcomes,” Cucuzzella noted.

Training Objectives

The program is designed to help healthcare professionals:

  • Understand the role of CRF and movement competency in patient health.
  • Develop personalized exercise prescriptions tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Integrate exercise into comprehensive patient care plans, including considerations for medication management.
  • Apply motivational interviewing techniques to enhance patient engagement.
  • Customize exercise prescriptions for special populations, ensuring safe and effective outcomes.

Who Should Attend?

This training is intended for healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and fitness professionals working in clinical settings. Whether new to exercise prescription or looking to enhance existing skills, participants will gain valuable insights into using exercise as a preventative and therapeutic intervention.

Partnership

This training has been developed in partnership with Peter Cummings, MPH, NNP, a preventive health expert with over 30 years of experience, specializing in therapeutic carbohydrate reduction and human performance. He has authored peer-reviewed articles in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine – FOCUS, contributing significantly to the integration of lifestyle interventions in managing chronic disease.

Peter emphasizes the importance of personalized exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle strategies for optimal health outcomes. As a mentor and endurance sports coach with numerous championship successes, his data-driven, integrative approach challenges the conventional reliance on medication. This upcoming exercise training will equip healthcare professionals and laypeople with practical tools to prioritize sustainable, holistic health solutions.
