Cape Town, South Africa – April 2025
In a bold step toward elevating ethical standards in healthcare, the Nutrition Network is offering free access to its acclaimed Advancing Ethics training module to all South African registered healthcare and allied health professionals. Accredited by the South African Medical Association (SAMA) for 15 CPD Ethics points, this fully online, self-paced training meets the entire annual ethics CPD requirement for practitioners.
While ethics CPD is often treated as a “tick-box” obligation, Advancing Ethics offers a transformative learning experience – delivering practical, thought-provoking content that invites healthcare professionals to re-examine the foundations of their practice in a rapidly changing world.
The training covers a wide range of relevant topics, including:
- The ethical use of emerging treatments like ketogenic diets for cancer, Ozempic, and bariatric surgery
- Childhood obesity and chronic disease management through an ethical lens
- Social media and virtual practice guidelines in modern medicine
- Legal protection for healthcare providers, with a special focus on the South African regulatory environment
- The evolving role of diet and alternative medicine in disease treatment and prevention
Participants will benefit from world-class lectures, downloadable resources, real-world case studies, and a Certificate of Completion, with the option to request an official Ethics CPD certificate.
“As South African clinicians, we see firsthand the devastating impact of lifestyle-related diseases in our communities,” says Dr. Hassina Kajee, Curriculum Director at the Nutrition Network. “Empowering our local healthcare professionals with high-quality ethics education is a vital step in reshaping the way we treat and manage disease. This offering is more than just CPD points – it’s a call to practice medicine with integrity, compassion, and courage.”
Dr. Neville Wellington, Diabetes Director at the Nutrition Network, adds: “Education is one of the most powerful tools we have in transforming healthcare in South Africa. By equipping our doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals with robust ethical training, we lay the foundation for responsible, patient-centered care. This initiative reflects our commitment to building a healthcare system that honours both science and ethics.”
Although the Nutrition Network serves a growing global community, with most members based in North America and Europe, its heart remains rooted in South Africa. This campaign is part of the organisation’s ongoing mission to uplift and educate local practitioners, fostering a deeper understanding of the role nutrition and ethical practice play in the prevention, treatment, and reversal of chronic diseases.
